Testimonials

I took my son, 4yo, to a KK birthday disco party yesterday. He had a ball!! They played games, booged to pop music, watched magic, won prizes and ran in the ‘snow’!! KK managed the children extremely well especially as they were 3 & 4 years olds. Mark was brilliant, funny and in total control.

Please pass on our huge thanks to Carl. He did a fantastic job on Saturday entertaining 35 children. My son D and the other two birthday children had a truly special birthday. All the children who came had a brilliant time and the atmosphere was fabulous. He knew just how engage the children and I

My son Paddy & his cousins went to Kool Kidz holiday camp in St Albans this week. What a fabulous time they all had. Karen, Mark & the team are professional & organised and we felt more than happy with the registration & security for pick up arrangements but most importantly the children had FUN!

Fit Minds

Fit Minds is a Mentoring and NLP4Kids service for children aged 7+ that covers the St Albans and Harpenden area.

We offer one to one sessions in locations and times that are mutually convenient to assist your child in overcoming any issues that they might have.

About Fit Minds

Fit Minds was set up by Mark Broom who has been working with children for over 20 years. With a successful children’s party and holiday camp business, he decided to get involved as a children’s mentor.

Mark has a natural ability to connect with young people and can quickly reassure them that he is there to listen and take their perspective into consideration. Even the most disengaged young people look forward to their sessions with Mark and are happy to open up which is a skill he’s very proud to have developed.

Mark mentors many primary and secondary school children who need support, guidance and advice on all manner of topics including confidence issues, anxiety, self-esteem, parents’ divorce/separation, anger and resilience.

In 2015 Mark became a qualified practitioner in NLP4Kids. NLP4Kids practitioners have specific techniques that they use for each challenge that children and teenagers may experience, These have been adapted from mainstream NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) methodologies.

NLP can be useful for helping to overcome emotional problems, behaviour disorders, phobias and anxious thinking. In order for any child, young person or adult to really benefit from NLP they must be 100% committed to achieving the results they desire.

Mark would give them advice, tools and strategies but he cannot make problems go away. As such he will need the full co-operation of the person who he is working with and ideally their support network too (e.g. family and teachers).

It is claimed in child psychology that between the ages of 3 years and 11 years is an imprint period. This means that childhood experiences between these ages are likely to have an impact on who that child becomes, how they feel, behave and represent the world to themselves in later life. This is why it is extremely important that a child is given the opportunity to understand their feelings and emotions. Failure to do so, could lead to that child growing up and feeling unable to ever achieve their full potential.

  • Common problems for children include:
  • Exam stress e.g. 11+ examinations, GCSEs or specialist subject exams.
  • Lack of confidence caused by natural shyness or life experiences.
  • Low self-esteem e.g. self-doubt, lack of assertiveness, negative beliefs, sensitivity.
  • Phobias from mild fears to sheer terror.
  • Bereavement– this can be a confusing time for children, they may react to the emotions of others who are close to them or may experience a deep loss for someone/something that may be regarded as minor by others around them.
  • Parents’ Divorce or any other kind of changes in home life can also cause disruption to an ordinarily balanced emotional state.

Mark can also work with children with these problems:

  • Anxiety in children
  • Anger management for children
  • Teenage depression
  • Children with ADHD
  • Children with ODD
  • Children with OCD

Children are much easier patients than adults as their minds are more open to the idea of improvement. They have not received the same conditioning from life that adults have. This means that results occur much more quickly when working with children. Parents are asked to support their child throughout their treatment in a variety of ways, and this may involve others within the family behaving or reacting in new ways. Since Mark will work alone with the child after the initial consultation involving the child and parent(s) he is able to build up good rapport with the child, and this way the child will usually express themselves a little better when their parents are not around. This is because when the parents are in the room, they would tend to let their parents do most of the talking and thinking!
